The arts are essential to the basic education of all students, no matter their age. Live theatre, whether students are observing in an audience or participating actively in their classroom or on a stage, encourages the development of the entire range of “21st Century Skills,” including creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, flexibility, adaptability, initiative, self-direction, productivity, accountability, leadership, responsibility and social and cross-cultural skills.
The Playhouse’s Education Department offers a range of services to young people and families each year. We bring professional plays and storytellers to schools and community arts centers, we present top-notch family performances on Saturday mornings, we offer specially-priced student matinees, we bring teaching artists into the classroom to work side by side with teachers to integrate drama into the school curriculum, we offer acting classes to all ages during the school year and give children a chance to immerse themselves more fully in our summer camp.
